10 Tips to Protect Your Hair from Humidity

During the hot summer months, moisture from the humid air attaches to the hair shaft, causing flyaways. If you are dealing with this issue right now, here are 10 tips shared by experts from Holiday Hair that will help make your hair frizz-free:

1. Use an anti-fizz product.

Using an anti-frizz product helps you get smooth hair. Apply the serum or cream on wet hair and massage gently to allow the product to get absorbed by the hair cuticles.

2. Use a flat iron after blow-drying your hair.

As anyone with a lot of fizzy hair will tell you, blow drying your hair is not enough. You also need to make sure you straighten your hair using an iron.

3. Wear your hair up.

Women with wavy hair or tight curls are more prone to frizz so it may be a good idea to braid the hair or pull the hair back into a bun. Style it while it’s still wet so as to beat humidity.

4. Use shea butter and oils.

If you have coarse or thick hair, shea butter and oils like Jamaican black castor oil or coconut oil can keep kinks to a minimum and keep your hair healthy.

5. Use the right shampoo.

Eliminate frizz using a smoothing shampoo. But don’t stop there. You should apply conditioner and a leave-in when you step out of the shower. Then wipe your hair dry with a microfiber towel.

6. Seal hair strands with a serum.

If you’re trying to protect your hair from humidity make sure the hair cuticle is as flat as possible. A lot of anti-humidity products contain silicone, but this ingredient will reduce hair volume so that’s something to consider. To protect your hair strands, finish up with serum to fend off humidity by sealing ends.

7. Dry your hair the right way.

Drying hair correctly is important and the right way to do it is by squeezing hair with the towel and not rough it up.

8. Moisturize.

Indeed it’s important to moisturize your skin especially when it’s humid. But it’s also important for the hair. Use products that help moisturize the hair and on top of that, you should refrain from applying shampoo frequently as doing so will eliminate the hair’s natural oils.

9. Apply gel on curly hair.

Before air drying your hair, always apply gel or a light hair spray to hold your curls and keep it fizz-free.

10. Get a keratin treatment.

The one product that fights humidity for all hair types is keratin. Also called Brazilian blow-dry, Keratin treatment gets rid of frizz and keeps your hair shiny. It may not be cheap but it’ll certainly make styling your hair a lot easier.
