What Personal Guidelines Must be Followed When Waxing?

Whether you are a first timer or it just always feels like the first time everytime you decide to go totally hairless for some reason, it doesn’t really matter.

It is possible that you still don’t know some of the tips we are about to mention here because people don’t talk a lot about waxing.

We want to avoid unnecessary skin problems or other uncomfortable mishaps so it’s best to read this small guide we prepared to acquaint you or increase your knowledge about waxing.

Waxing is preferred over shaving because it leaves you smoother without the irritating effects of epilations and creams.

Believe it or not, it is also more convenient especially if you follow these guidelines:

Skip the Wax at Home Kit and Head Straight to a Professional

Waxing requires precision and patience. Ingrown hairs and other skin irritants can easily be avoided if you leave everything to experts. You are not really saving money when you do it at home because it might cost more to cure any problem arising.

Know How Many Days You Need to Recover After Wax and Schedule Your Activities After that

Schedule an eyebrow wax at least two to three days before any occasion where you will be seen by the legions so by that time any redness that may occur post-wax would have been gone already.

Your Brazilian needed to be booked a day or two as well before your bikini pageant.

Your skin needs 24-48 hours to heal before it gets any contact. Give time for the hair follicles to close and avoid skin irritation from waxing.

Avoid Alcohol Before Getting a Wax

Alcohol has a tendency to make skin more sensitive so don’t drink even a small amount before your schedule.

Use Cotton Underwear

Wear cotton panties on the day of your wax. It may be granny-ish or childish but you will be needing something less irritating and breathable after your wax session.

You need to be very comfortable before and after so go for skirts or loose pants instead of the usual tight jeans which you should completely skip at least for a few days.

Schedule Your Sessions Apart

No matter how tempting or addicting going hairless can be, a bikini wax should be scheduled at least six weeks apart. Eyebrow wax should be scheduled four weeks apart as well as other parts of the body like legs, arms and chest. That is the time it takes for them to heal and be resilient enough to endure the next.

Accept That Each Skin Heals Differently

Some people may be more sensitive to waxing than others. Some skin may be a bit reddish longer than the rest. Some need more after care regimen. Don’t get panicky if your post wax situation takes longer to disappear. It will still get to the right direction and should diminish quickly than you notice it.

Accept That Everyone has a Different Hair Growth Rate

If you see your hair grow quicker than your best friend’s, it only means you can enjoy more frequent wax sessions than others. Growth rate can be attributed to a lot of factors like hormone levels, age and genetics. It is normal to be different from the rest. It is not really inconvenient because you can still choose to follow the same schedule even if you or your friend has longer hair.

Follow Your Appointments Religiously

The more frequent you remove hair from the root, the more the hair follicle becomes damaged and will cause the hair to thin

It is less uncomfortable to wax thinner hair so it is going to a direction you will like – hairless.

You also stay hair-free longer than usual if you wax regularly. The hair may even stop growing at all.

Take Note of the Different Kinds of Wax Treatment

Know the different kinds of wax service. It will save you a lot of awkward time having the spa attendant, say at Pretty Kitty or European Wax Center Salon explaining to you what they are about to do to you.

  • bikini line wax – cleans up the panty line area and top
  • bikini full wax –  removes the amount of unwanted hair in the front according to your preference
  • Brazilian wax –  removes everything in the front and back.

Take Note of the Appropriate Safe Length of the Hair Before Waxing Again

Hair should be about ¼ to ¾ inch long before getting a wax. Anything less than this can be a little uncomfortable or painful. If it is too long, it has to be trimmed

Choose the Right Salon

Observe the area first where they do the process and make sure everything is sanitized. If you settle for less, you risk getting infection, bacteria and other nasty things.

Inform the Wax Specialist about any Allergies or Prescription

It is very important that you inform the wax attendants if you are allergic to any skin creams so they can avoid using it on you.

Let them know if you are currently taking or applying any prescriptions such as Retin-A. Medications such as isotretinoin or tretinoin, aka retinoic acid, can thin the skin, causing it to tear upon waxing. Now you know

Love Love Love Yourself

It is your body. Be sure you are doing this because you wanted to and not because someone else tells you so. Don’t dwell on peer pressure and allow your inhibitions to rest at its own pace before making decisions.
