Improving Your Hair with Basic Salon Services

One of the things that you might want to look for in a salon is the availability of a wide range of services. While most people only go for haircuts, wouldn’t it be better and more convenient if you can accomplish a lot of things without having to transfer to another place? It is a good thing that there are places like JCPenny Salon which offers a lot of hair services not just for you but for the whole family as well.

JCPenny has 900 salons across the United States so it is no wonder that a lot of people go to different branches for their hair styling needs. But, aside from the availability, people patronize the salon because of the wide range of services that they can offer. For the basics, they offer haircuts for men, women, and even kids. They also have signature blowouts, coloring and highlighting services, treatments, straightening services, relaxers, perms, and even hair extensions.

However, the downside is, with a lot of services that you can choose from, do you even know what kind of service you really need? To give you a better idea, let us try to take a look at some of the basic services that salons offer and what they are for.

Haircut

This is probably the most basic service that one can get from a salon. All salons offer hair cutting services either for men, women, kids, or for everyone. It usually includes shampooing prior to cutting and blow-drying afterwards. Some packages even offer scalp massages, hot towels, and trimming of facial hairs if applicable. Most of the time, the price range varies depending on the experience of the hairstylist.

Hair Coloring Services

You basically color your hair to add more character or to hide gray hair. There are different types of coloring services as new trends become popularized. You can choose whether you want any of the following:

  • Permanent Color. This type of color is also known as oxidation because an oxidizer such as hydrogen peroxide and ammonia are mixed with the coloring agent before being applied to hair. Permanent color still grows out, but they do not have to be applied as often as semi-permanent or temporary. However, one downside of using permanent color is that they can be more damaging to your hair as the chemicals are stronger and the mixture has to be left on the hair longer.
  • Semi-permanent Color. This type of color uses very little or no developer at all so it is less damaging to the hair. They give a more natural color and easier to use since they do not have to be pre-mixed. They fade out slowly and last for about six weeks.
  • Temporary Color. This type of hair color is washed out after one or two shampoos. It is usually available in the form of gels, sprays, or foams and are typically brighter and more vibrant looking.
  • Bleach and Highlights. This coloring process also involves oxidation as it decolorizes the pigment in the hair shaft. Bleaching turns hair to blonde, and sometimes almost white when left on for too long. After bleaching, another color is applied to have streaks of lighter color or highlights.

Hair Treatments

Your hair needs to be treated and moisturized for recovery, especially after a damaging treatment like coloring or perming. There are different types of treatment depending on the severity of damage.

Perms and Straightening Services

Perm is short for permanent waves and it is what you need if you want to have bouncy curls or beautiful waves into your limp hair. On the other hand, if you have curly hair and want to experience straight and sleek hair, you can opt for a straightening service which can be either temporary using hot iron, straightening comb or a simple blowdry,  or permanent using chemical treatment.

Some salons also offer threading and waxing services either for facial hairs or other parts of the body. You also do not need to go to a spa because some offer spa treatments which include soaks, scrubs, manicure, and pedicure.

These are just some of the basic services offered by salons, but there are a lot more, especially for a place like JCPenny Salon. You can even hair extensions, and other styling methods such as corn rows and knots. It just goes to show that commercial establishments nowadays recognize that customers are looking for both convenience and quality service.
